Magazine Feedback: Severne Gator 8.0 Windsport, Spring 2006
“The Gator 8.0 is a top-speed-oriented no cam built to excel on today’s wideboards. Preferring to be powered, its acceleration is solid as it races up to top speed
in no time. The Gator shows no fear of sizeable gusts, holding its speed and crisp feel no matter what is thrown at it. Its cutaway clew makes for a shorter boom,
allowing for easier trim work and better manoeuvrability.
Bottom line:
Extremely stable, very fast.”
Progressive Ride Geometry
The Gator introduces the concept of Progressive Ride Geometry. This encompasses the concept of the fi rst true aggressive freeride sail for all conditions. By
optimising all aspects of the sail such as foot angle, draft position and rig ergonomic, the Gators provide a seamless transition from traditional light wind freeride,
all the way through bump & jump to dedicated wave sailing.
All aspects of the materials usage are oriented towards reduced weight in larger sizes, while maintain the 100% X-Ply construction. On smaller sizes materials
are focused on increased durability
Triple Zone Panel: Layout optimises the characteristics of the three sections of the sail.
Control Zone:
The upper section of the sail defi nes the control characteristics of the sail. This is done through varying the parameters such as twist and skin tension. Lighter
materials are used in this section to reduce swing weight and enhance control.
Power Zone:
This is the section where the power is generated from the sail. Deeper or fi ner profi les defi ne the power. The amount of mechanical support (battens and cams)
controls stability. Materials optimised towards visibility.
Impact zone:
The essential characteristic of this zone is durability. Varying grades of X-Ply are used depending on the sail’s application. Every Severne Sail features a seamless
foot construction and Pro-Tect patching.
